What To Look For In Gas Grills
By ATVMan
Incredible outdoor kitchens like the one above are always centered around the grill. Barbecuing is such a popular activity that it has spurred the manufacture of different grill designs and types. Among the most popular are gas grills that use either natural or liquefied propane gas. The popularity of gas grilling, as opposed to charcoal, is driven mainly by the convenience it provides. Gas grills are easier to use, they don’t have the waiting time associated with the use of charcoal, and they are much easier to clean compared to charcoal.
Is a Gas Grill Right for You?
If you love the process of grilling and the distinct smoked taste of barbecue, then a gas grill is not your best option. The one thing that charcoal grilling has over gas grilling is its providing a better smoked taste. A lot of purists would add that gas grilling does not provide the same level of joy that is derived from the barbecuing activity as does charcoal grilling.
The important thing for the consumer is that there are options available depending on one’s personal choice. As previously mentioned, the different models and designs are truly a modern day benefit for grilling enthusiasts.
Still, whenever deciding on a type of gas grill, make sure that you select carefully. Unfortunately, there have been cases where generally unknown foreign made brands, priced way below market were not designed and manufactured with quality in mind.
Tips When Shopping For A Gas Grill
Listed below are a few selection tips when shopping for a gas grill.
Propane or Natural Gas
What I like most about using natural gas is avoiding the hassle of having my LPG tank refilled otherwise. However, if you are deciding on an outdoor grill you will need to spend more money on extending access to your gas line. This means you need to lay more piping to your outdoor built in grill or at least create access to a location where you would normally roll your grill to.
What Grill Size
The grill size should be dependent on the number of meals you need to provide for. That decision really depends on you and the number of times and people you entertain. Also, make sure that the grill fits into your outdoor barbecue area.
What’s on the Grill?
If you are used to simply barbecuing hamburgers, steaks and hotdogs, then all you need is a simple grill. If, however, you want whole chicken or turkey, then choose a grill that provides a rotisserie. There are other features in a grill such as a side burner, which can provide you with added convenience.
Avoid Rust
All stainless steel grills look really nice and shiny when you look at it at a store. Believe me; stainless steel will rust if not cleaned regularly. All stainless steel grills are actually of mixed grade. Choose higher grades to avoid rusting.
Be Safe
Always think safety when acquiring a gas grill. Always test the stability of a grill before you purchase one. Test it by pushing downwards from every angle to check its stability. Check also for sharp edges. Lastly try testing the grill as if you were already using it. The handle of the lid, for example should have enough space for your fingers to avoid burning yourself with the grill cover. The point is to think “safety” when making a choice.

Good stuff again! I'm still a charcoal man myself, but I have often though about getting a gasgrill out of convenience.
